new website

well, it's time for a new website. Sorry for those who have followed us here from the myspace but please bear with us! We're moving because neither that site nor this one gives us the flexibility we need to organize the projects we want to make heppen. Thus, we're in the process of migrating to:
and we're looking for input on the site's content. A couple volunteers added some preliminary stuff about the CCC and its projects. We'll tweak the format and visuals over time, but we'd love some feedback about the content of the descriptions. What are we missing? Where have we mis-represented things? What is dumb? What do you think is nice?

Leave comments under the section you want to talk about. There's no need to register to leave comments.

We're hoping to launch this "officially" in the first week of september so leave those comments soon.

PREMIERING
FRIDAY 8/14 & SATURDAY 8/15

The Presentation: a forty five minute two-person play, to be performed surrounded in close quarters by an intimate audience on the same floor level. A chair. A gun. A radio. Two actors.

The Exposition, in the form of a fictional news report:
A member of the US delegation has been kidnapped. Police are currently out in force searching for the missing delegate and his abductors. The delegate was captured at the airport en route to the new global trade negotiations. Similar actions were attempted around the world. This appears to be a decentralized global effort by a network of highly sophisticated terrorist groups. Sources say that the organizations are domestic anti-globalization groups, hoping to shut down the negotiations by kidnapping the negotiators. The possibility that they are operating- perhaps unwittingly, under command or in coordination with Islamic terrorist groups like Al Queda has not be ruled out. Only the attack on the US delegation was successful. A replacement delegate is already en route to the talks, which will commence on schedule.

AUGUST REALLY REALLY FREE MARKET

COME to the August Really Really Free Market (RRFM)

Imagine a neighborhood rummage sale where people from around town brought a load of the nice things they no longer needed. Imagine a lot full of useful stuff, gently used clothes, and all the random things you could never find in stores anyway. Now, imagine you can take any of it for free!

It's not a fantasy, it's happening in garden park on August 9th from 10-4pm but it'll be nothing without you. Without you coming to bring something or take a bunch of stuff away, it'll just be another Sunday in the park. Consider this a modest challenge! When we have no control over the economy and sometimes whether we can keep a job or our homes, can we organize ourselves to materially support each other?

So, raid the closets, scour the basement, empty the attic one of these cool summer days. Tell your friends and neighbors to do the same and we'll see you there!

More on Really Really Free Markets

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On another note, please forgive our patchy open hours in the first week of August, some of our volunteers are out of town. We're always looking for people to plug in and pick up shifts or take responsibility for one of the collectives. More on this soon. Comment here or stop in if you're interested in improving the CCC.
Queer Zinester Roadshow
At the very end of July, 7 queers are going to be reading from their zines in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison.
*MILWAUKEE*
Friday, July 31st - 7pm
Cream City Collectives
732 E. Clark
The Cream City Collectives is proud to welcome:
Dave Fried is a twenty nine year old queer Jewish man. He has been writing zines since the early '90s and has been putting out Black Carrot since '04. He also plays drums in the queerpunk band Bromance. He enjoys the finer things in life, such as black metal, ice beers, and bear porn.
Kisha Hope is a fat, queer, black, female-identified individual currently living in Chicago. She started writing zines when she was 15, the first being "butt fat". She recently co-wrote a zine with her partner, Dave (Black Carrot), about their house-buying experience (Fort Mortgage).She is currently working on a new zine about her personal story of child sexual abuse and just finished the first issue of A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad, LIFE. It's sort of a biomythography zine about growing up fat, poor, awkward, and black.She collects zines about body acceptance, fat girls, queer love, or bikes.
Milo has been making zines since the late 1990s. Zis two longest series are Mutate (1998-2006) and Gendercide. In addition ze's self-published SoyBoi - Queer Adventures In My Vegetarian Kitchen, Peulah Shaveh Chayim (Action = Life) and most recently Heavy Mayo. Ze is also one of the co-founders of QZAP, the Queer Zine Archive Project. Milo currently lives in Milwaukee with zis partner-in-crime and their pet rock Nigel.
Kelly Shortandqueer has been making friends laugh with anecdotes about his life for years. He brings this candid storytelling style of performance to this queer zine tour, entertaining audiences with his honesty and humor. He has been publishing his zine series, shortandqueer, since August 2004. He was one of the co-founders of both the Denver Zine Library (which houses over 9,000 zines) and Tranny Roadshow (a performance art tour with an all transgender cast). He currently lives in Denver and works as the Director of Advocacy for the Colorado Anti-Violence Program.
Max Stein is a writer and unschooling teacher living in Brooklyn, NY. Her current zine, "The Rainbow Connection," is about gay Muppeteer Richard Hunt. Previous zines include "The Long Walk Back to Myself," about her fifty-mile walk from Brooklyn to Croton-on-Hudson; and "Mad Love," about radical mental health. When not writing or watching Muppets, she is taking absurdly long walks, practicing gratitude and chasing girls.
John Thompson is a queer white/latino/mixed musician, writer, and activist currently living in Chicago. He writes the zine Gone to the Moon, plays drums in the pop-punk sensation Everything is Ruined, and also plays guitar in the queer punk band Bromance. He is also involved in the Write to Win Collective, which is a prisoner correspondence project in coordination with the Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois that matches up transgender, transsexual, queer, and gender non-conforming prisoners to be penpals with similarly identified folks on the outside.
Christopher is the co-founder of The Queer Zine Archive Project, creator of the zines Abrupt Lane Edge, Wicked Wipeout, and others. For four years, he reviewed queer zines for Milwaukee based Queer Life News. In September 2009, he will be an artist in residence at The Anchor Zine Library and Archive in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he'll curate SPEW Fo(u)rth: A Canadian Queer Zine Art Show which will be displayed both there and at The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives in Toronto.
Write to Dave! - Saturday 7/18 3-5pm
Our friend Dave was sentenced earlier this week to 90 days in the ramsey county workhouse on trumped up charges stemming from the republican national convention last september. This Saturday 7/18, at our regular letter writing potluck, we're aiming to write him a boatload of notes and letters, drawings, puzzles, and whatevers to show our support. Dave is only allowed twenty minutes of visiting time per week through a video screen and no personal contact is allowed. Letters, notes, drawings make a huge difference and connect us to our friend while the state attempts to isolate us from each other.
If you've never met him, stop in and we'll tell you just how charming he is. If you haven't come to a letter writing saturday yet, please do stop in between 3-5pm on the 18th for a handful of minutes to make several days of Dave's that much better. We'll take care of the postage.
Want to write from home? Send your letters to:
David Terrence Mahoney
297 S. Century Ave
St. Paul, MN 55119
We love you Dave!
Ghost Mice & Heathers
An early July greetings to you, dear readers and a heartfelt thank you to Ghost Mice, Heathers, and Audrea for the fantastic show! Naturally, we'd love to have you play again any time you'd like. And thank you to all who came to enjoy the music. Do stop in again soon for some free coffee and zines or volunteer to do a workshop or cover a shift. If you'd like to teach something, get thinking about it and come to an umbrella meeting (Tuesdays at 4:30pm) before August so we can get it on that month's schedule.
We're happy to announce that the July calendar is finished and you can pick up a copy by the zines. While you're out and about, think about what you'd like to read this summer because July first marks the CCC's summer Book-It kick off. Stay tuned for more info because its rumored that there will be pizza for those who do their readin'.
Annual Volunteer Day/Pancake Breakfast
thanks to Nomadrhizome for the photo. comment if you want it taken down>
Have you ever thought about hanging out regularly at the Cream City Collectives, learning more about how things run, and improving the free shop/infoshop/screen printing collective/art gallery/show booking/(future)computer lab/kitchen/ or garden?
The time is now to share ideas and learn to be a CCC volunteer - it's easy! The Cream City Collectives is looking for some inspired folks to donate just two hours per week as a general volunteer or toward one of the above projects. We could use help in virtually any area and have projects that can fit a variety of schedules and skill levels.
If you've thought about it...
Please come out this SUNDAY the 21st of June, at 1PM to talk about your ideas and learn how to be a volunteer. Don't worry if you can't commit now - come anyway if you'd like to help out anytime in the future.
The CCC is all volunteer run and we rely on you(us) to keep it exciting and relevant. Please join us Sunday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also this Sunday, the June Pancake Breakfast returns in full force. Come out from 10-1pm on the 21st for cheap, all-you-can-eat pancakes and free coffee. Why not treat Dad to an affordable breakfast?
